The War Mouth Earns Adaptive Use Award from Historic Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC – On May 4, 2016 at the Historic Columbia Preservation Awards Luncheon, Studio 2LR received an Adaptive Use Award for its project at 1209 Franklin Street for The War Mouth restaurant. Since 1946, the original building had been home to a variety of businesses and uses. In 2015, the owner/developer for this project, Cason Development Group, LLC, purchased the property, which had most recently been used as an auto-repair and storage shop. The adaptive use project preserved much of the original building character by exposing the existing wood purlins and bow trusses. Existing building elements were also salvaged and re-purposed within the new space. A large red roll-up door allows for open air dining while providing a transparent and inviting storefront on Franklin Street.
